Mutual Aid / Donations for Marlene Hale:
Empowering Indigenous Youth Voices

Dear Friends, Allies, and Community Members,

My name is Marlene Hale, and I am an Indigenous Chef, Activist, and Filmmaker. I am reaching out to you with a heartfelt call for support as I launch a nationwide initiative aimed at empowering Indigenous youth leaders to use their voices and perspectives to drive meaningful change in Canada. In these challenging times, we are reminded of the strength that comes from unity, collective action, and mutual aid. As we approach the upcoming federal election, it is crucial that we come together to support one another and amplify our voices, especially those of Indigenous youth and marginalized communities. This moment is pivotal; with the federal election on the horizon, we have a unique opportunity to
influence the future of our country and ensure that the concerns of our youth are heard and addressed.

Why Now?

The upcoming federal election presents a critical juncture for Canada, as it will shape policies that affect our environment, social justice, and Indigenous rights for years to come. With youth voter turnout at only 39% in the last election, many young people feel unheard and disconnected from the political process. This is particularly concerning given that the issues at stake—such as climate change, reconciliation, and social equity—directly impact their futures.

During our recent webinar, youth shared their concerns about Old Growth forests, environmental degradation, and the urgent need for reconciliation with Indigenous communities. These are not just abstract issues; they are deeply personal and affect the lives of young people across the country. As we navigate these challenges, it is essential that we engage our youth and ensure their voices are represented in the political discourse.

The stakes are high, and the time to act is now. We must mobilize our communities to advocate for policies that reflect our values and aspirations. Together, we can create a strong, progressive movement that not only addresses the immediate concerns of our youth but also lays the groundwork for a more equitable and just
Canada.

Calls For Support

As we embark on this journey, I invite you to support me through this mutual aid effort. The funds raised will go towards my mental and emotional health, healing, and costs associated with my initiative to engage youth in meaningful discussions about civic engagement.

Your donation will specifically help cover:
● Travel expenses to reach various communities
● Accommodations and food during my travels
● Media-related support (including coverage by CBC)
● Documentary costs to capture this important journey
● Honorarium for campaign manager to coordinate the administration
● Pro bono organizing and speaking engagements to ensure accessibility for all youth

Other Ways You Can Support:
● Share Resources: If you have information about voter registration, civic engagement, or community events, please share it widely.
● Organize Local Events: Host discussions, workshops, panels or gatherings to educate and mobilize your community around the upcoming election.
● Support Each Other: If you or someone you know needs assistance—whether it’s transportation to polling stations, access to information, or emotional support—reach out and offer help.
● Spread the Word: Share this campaign with your networks. The more people involved, the stronger our movement will be!

Together, we can empower the next generation of leaders to see voting as a powerful tool for change. Your contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant impact on this initiative and help us build a brighter future for all.
